Ten Things to Let Go for A Happy 2019

Another New Year is here and I am sure you are looking forward to a wonderful time full of surprises. However, there are few things you need to cast aside in order to make sure the New Year really brings happiness in your life.

Gossiping:“Gossip reflects the insecurity of those who initiate it”

No matter how appalling, intriguing or accurate a particular piece of information about a person is, refrain from passing it on to others. Not even casually. Resist the urge to give away unnecessary details about anyone. Try not to spread the bad happenings in others’ lives. If you find out that your girl gang has started sharing some juicy piece of news about someone, make it a habit to mention a good thing about that person or try to change the subject. That way you will keep up the positivity and tone down unnecessary drama. Badmouthing others won’t keep your mind happy and peaceful.

Judging: “When you judge another, you do not define them, you define yourself”

Literally every single person in this world is guilty of jumping to conclusions about other people. The worst part is that these conclusions are derived from some random aspects about that person. Believe it or not, you cannot judge a person’s character based on their dress sense, whether or not they have tattoos, their hairstyle, the kind of job they have or even their past mistakes. Be kind. Open your mind and your heart a bit more and spare some space for all the people who you have been judging so far. There, you are flushing out some mental toxins already.

Grudges: “To continue holding on to grudges is to keep feeding your pain”

Grudges are one of those things that holds you tight on a leash, stopping you from sprinting towards the garden of happiness. It is probably not easy to forgive people who wronged you. But holding grudges against them doesn’t do any good either. What are you planning on? Revenge? Not worth your time, energy, and happiness. Forgive and forget. Not for them, but for your own peace.

Expectations: Peace begins where expectations end”

Remember all the times when people let you down and you were left with a frown? People are different and they all see the world differently than you do. Hence, it is highly likely that they do not live up to your mark and leave you disappointed. This is why it is best not to keep high hopes from people around you.

Attachment: “You can only lose what you cling to”

Attachment is exactly what keeps those expectations high in the first place. We are attached, nay, we are inseparable from our family, friends, and other things that we hold dear. And, god forbid, if you lose any of them, you plunge in a sea of sorrow. To avoid this, try your best to spend some time alone with yourself without the people or things that you love. This will make sure that you don’t need them all the time to keep you happy.

Complaining: “You can complain because roses have thorns or rejoice because thorns have roses”

Not every situation is going to be favourable to you and there may be times when you have to face a lot of them. A classic response to any unwanted circumstance would be complaining about it to others. However, while you drone away your problems, you are regurgitating the negativity in your head and that prevents you from being a happy person. What you can do instead is not just talk about your situation objectively but also discuss solutions to cope with it.

Blame game: “Blame is just a lazy person’s way of making sense of chaos”

Another human tendency is to pinpoint a person who is the likely reason behind the unwanted situation and then blame him or her. Or you might even have the habit of blaming yourself if you are kind enough to not chide anyone else. However, the action of blaming is degrading in itself. Hence, it is best to avoid blaming anyone altogether and not look down upon yourself or others.

Self-doubt: Self-doubt is the anchor that keeps our ships from sailing”

This is one thing which makes sure you stay sulky and stops you from reaching your set goals. This year, leave all the doubt aside and believe in yourself. If you ever feel you are not good enough, hammer your mind with encouraging thoughts and keep going.

Impressing the world: “It is okay to live a life others do not understand”

Humans are social animals, but they do not have to go out of their way to cast great impressions on their own species. It is okay to opt for your own comfort and not worry about what it will look like to others for once. Do what YOU like. It is okay if people don’t like your favourite outfit or your life choices in general. Remember what I said about not judging people? This time you should not care about others judging you. Simple as that.

Unhealthy eating habits: “Eating is a necessity, but eating healthy is an art”

This is probably the hardest thing you’d ever have to do. But eating the right kind of food will make your body glowing and healthy, and you would lose some unwanted weight in the process, too. A healthy and happy body will encourage your mind to be cheerful. As they rightly put it “Nothing tastes better than being fit feels”. So kick out all the junk and bring in all the greens.

Close the doors to all the negativity and commence 2019 with a fresh and brand-new persona. Happy New Year!
