Golden Rules

Les Brown says “If you set goals and go after them with all the determination you can muster, your gifts will take you places that will amaze you”. Life is all about more than just fighting the daily routine. To be an exceptional warrior, one needs to focus on the goals and by the goals life needs to be defined. Goals are the most important part of achieving success. It helps one to stay focused and it helps to confidently neglect the ideas that doesn’t contribute to reaching the destination. Here are the five golden rules for setting the goals

  1. Define goals that align with your vision

It is important to align both personal life goals and career goals such that either one of it doesn’t pull the others leg which might lead to misery. It is definitely not a best practice to set a goal that deviate from our vision. How miserable it is to plan a perfect graduation at the age of 22 and landing up in the career that doesn’t give personal as well as career satisfaction.

  1. A motivating factor

Make sure to set the goals that motivates you. The energy that is spent on the efforts to achieve success should be thoroughly valid and one should have interest in the outcome. If it looks irrelevant in the larger picture, then one cannot make things work in the way they desire, even after trying out for N number of times. Motivation is the key factor for achieving the goals.

  1. Set the goals in writing

The act of writing down the goal makes it real and tactile. One cannot give an excuse of forgetting them. When you write a goal, use the word “will” instead of “might”, “could” or “I would like to”. For example “I will start doing exercise early morning from today” and not “I would like to start doing exercise early morning from today” and it is “I will complete the task by this Wednesday” and not “I might complete the task by this Wednesday”.

  1. Set action plans

Many of us forget to define the steps that is required to achieve the goal by completely focusing only on its outcome. Write down the individual steps to be followed to complete the goal with ease. This will help us to make mistakes but learn and experience out of it. One major advantage of modularisation is that we can track the progress of our journey to reach success. This is more important when the goal is demanding and it’s a long term one.

  1. Stick to the plans

Remember the outcome and the destination will always be the same. But you can reiterate the action plans in such a way that it can be feasible. It is a best practice to keep oneself in track and make regular time to review our goals. The relevance, and necessity should always be high to avoid any failures.

At times, whenever we feel lost or down, it is a great idea to get motivated by many leaders who have set their goals high to achieve success.Think little goals and expect little achievements. Think big goals and win big success says David Joseph Schwartz. Think Bigger and Achieve Bigger.
